The History of the Mid-Atlantic Cannabinoid Research Collaborative
Drs. Billy R.Martin (Medical College of Virginia. Virginia Commonwealth University) and Allyn C. Howlett (Wake Forest University) organized the first official meeting of the Carolina Cannabinoid Collaborative (CCC), in Greensboro, NC in 2006.
The meeting was designed to bring cannabinoid researchers on the East coast of the United States together for an annual scientific confernce regarding recent finding in cannabinoid pharmacology and biochemsitry.
Dr. Martin volunteered to host the 2007 meeting in Wilmington, NC. Students, faculty, and staff from universities, regulatory agencies, research institutions, and industry were encouraged to participate. In subsequent years, individuals continued to volunteer to serve as hosts of CCC meetings at other venues throughout the Mid-Atlantic region of the US.
In 2025, the CCC initiated steps to become recognized as a not-for-profit institution that aims to be recognized as an official chapter organizations of the International Cannabinoid Research Society.
